The After The Affair podcast with me Luke Shillings is here to help you process, decide and move forward on purpose following infidelity. Together we'll explore what's required to rebuild trust not only in yourself but also with others. Whether you stay or leave I can help and no matter what your story there will be something here for you.
Let's go! Hello and welcome to this slightly shorter but special episode of the After The Affair podcast. I'm your host Luke Shillings and this is episode number 66. As we close 2023 and anticipate the arrival of the new year it's time for reflection, a bit of understanding and looking ahead with hope.
Today I want to revisit the journey that we've shared this past year exploring some of the complexities of infidelity and the paths to healing. Before we delve further I want to acknowledge that for many the holiday season can magnify the pain and challenges of dealing with infidelity. It's a time when emotions run high and the absence of or strain in relationships is felt more deeply.
If you're experiencing this know that you are not alone. The festive lights and celebrations can cast shadows on your path but they can also be reminders of the resilience and strength that you have within you to navigate through these difficult times. In the spirit of reflection and as we look forward to 2024 I invite you to join me in a simple but meaningful activity.
Take a moment to revisit the titles of our 2023 episodes. Each title encapsulates a journey, a lesson or challenge that we've explored together. Write down the ones that resonate most with you or the ones that you wish to revisit.
This simple act of reflection is a powerful tool to remind us of the progress we've made and the insights that we've gained. So if we take ourselves back to the beginning of this year we began our journey by understanding the motivational triad and how our basic needs drive our actions. Remember avoid pain, seek pleasure, conserve energy.
Exactly and then we uncovered the best ways to heal and actually we realised that maybe there isn't actually a best way to heal. This led on to grappling with the painful realisation that sometimes it's all lies. In our quest for peace we walked the road to forgiveness, finding confidence after infidelity and we learned how to handle any problem.
Understanding why people cheat was a challenging but necessary step in this journey as well. We delved into the complexities of the blame shame game and the danger of people pleasing. Our exploration of jealousy and the power of limerence shed light on the emotional turmoils that often go unspoken in relationships.
Together we sought wisdom from experts and survivors learning from David Redbord about redefining self-worth and from Nicole Harvick about forgiveness. Each conversation like with Diana Ingers, Jennifer Yale or Ferkin Dandia was a step towards understanding and healing. As we navigated the tech trap and the role of self-awareness after infidelity, we discovered the importance of looking through the lens of negativity to find balance.
Remember Resentment Reboot and Rejecting Compromise? Well these were not just topics but life lessons in empowering ourselves. The episodes like Walking the Path of Solitude and Understanding the Cheaters Mindset truly challenged our perceptions and encouraged deeper introspection. As we move into 2024, let's take the lessons of resilience, understanding and self-discovery that we've explored this year.
Whether it's overcoming thought addiction, understanding the dynamics of dating after the affair or embracing the benefits of healing from infidelity. Each step is a movement towards a brighter and more hopeful future. As we step into 2024, let's do so with knowledge that while our journeys are personal and unique, we are united in our quest for healing, our quest for understanding and growth.
The new year brings new possibilities, new hope and a continuation of our journey together. I want to thank you all once again for being part of this journey with me in 2023 and I look forward to walking alongside you in 2024, sharing more insights, stories and of course hope. I've been Luke Shillings and this has been the After The Affair podcast and I can't wait to talk to you all again very very soon.
Happy New Year!
